What is a Celebrant?
A Celebrant is someone who works with couples to create a ceremony built around who they are and their love story. Working with the couple to build a meaningful script that tells their story, a Celebrant will make the usual boring ceremony the bit people remember about the day!
How did Celebrant's come about?
Ceremonies have been around since ancient Egyptian and Greek times. They established rituals and rites of passage for both funerals and weddings. A push for non-religious ceremonies in the 20th century saw an increase in Celebrants who created ceremonies for those steering away from the norm. Australia was the first to recognise Celebrants as a profession, and by the 1980s, the UK had Introduced the profession Today, Celebrants conduct a huge array of ceremonies ranging from weddings to baby naming, and even pet ceremonies!
Are Celebrant led ceremonies legally binding?
In some countries, such as Australia and Scotland, they are. However, England and Wales are yet to recognise Celebrants as individuals who can legally marry couples. Don't let that put you off, though. Whether you have been legally married in Las Vegas and want a huge wedding celebration on home soil, or you decide to hop into a registry office for a two-by-two affair (which costs around £150 in England) and then want a bespoke, wild ceremony, this is where Celebrants come in.

Celebrants can lead a ceremony in most places! Whether you fancy a fairy woodland setting, a midnight affair in a museum, a beautiful traditional stately home, or sand between your toes on a gorgeous beach, the location list is endless.
Time also doesn't matter with a Celebrant-led ceremony; if you want a midnight ceremony or a sunset ceremony, it's your choice.

Celebrant-led ceremonies can pretty much involve all sorts of crazy ideas.
If you want Uncle Jim singing his famous songs, Dad playing his guitar, or even Nan with glow sticks, you can!

Celebrants can incorporate symbolic actions into the ceremony, too.
Whether you like the idea of hand-fasting with beautiful ribbons to recognise tying the knot, a sand ceremony to celebrate and take away as a keepsake (extra cute for baby naming ceremonies), or jumping the broom (dangerous after a few drinks but always fun), then it's something we can work out together.
